All of a sudden my dad's '02 H.O. is wanting to not accelerate after slowing down then trying to speed up again. I'll let off the pedal coasting down to traffic ahead and sometimes when it drops around 1500RPM's or lower and then put my foot back in it it won't put any more fuel to the motor regardless how far I push down the pedal like it's stuck at that throttle position. Every once and a while it will do it but after a few seconds it will pour the fuel to it like it's supposed to and speed up. It only does this every once and a while. We drove 350 miles today and it probably did it 4 times.

We are thinking it's either a TPS or the dreaded VP44. Any ideas?

Just scanned for codes. It's throwing a 1693 and an 0216. If someone knows the codes please let me know, that would be great. Thanks.

Done, thank you for the link. I did some research earlier on yahoo and apparently an 0216 code is the injection pump has a timing failure and I have gathered from the readings this requires a whole new pump. bummer.

Dad seems to be optimistic about it and mentioned just going ahead and replacing it (after having it tested of course) and doing a set of 65HP Mach 1's while it's all apart. Truck should run good when he gets it back though.

    Glad to help.

Suggest if and when he does the VP44 that two things happen - he checks his fuel pressure (and replaces the lift pump if needed) and puts gauges on the engine (specifically the fuel pressure as the most important). Word is the VP fails due to low fuel pressure.

Every time my IP goes out those two codes show up and that is the exact symptoms in driveability. I hope your Dad's H.O. does not eat pumps like mine does..... I am getting about 30,000 miles to a pump on average.

Time for a pusher pump and a low pressure side gauge.

I'm reading up on the different pusher pumps and I think it is going to be the R.A.S.P. sysytem that I will use . I have had a pressure gauge in the truck since about 10,000 miles or so but I will still loose IP's with acceptable fuel pressure...... It's a good thing I like this truck - dispite the poorly designed fuel delivery system.

I plan on the FASS system eventually. I don't have any guages right now but figure my lift pump is doing fine since it was replaced 12K ago. I plan on having guages within another 10K or so. I would agree that it's good these trucks have so many other benifets because the fuel system definantly isn't it's strong point. I plan on the FASS system as soon as my new lift pump starts dieing and if I ever loose the VP44 I will replace it with the Hot Rod VP44 version.

I installed on of my Hot Rod VP44s on my buddies truck a few weeks ago and what an awesome pump! HRvp44 and 275rv injectors on a 2000 and it flat kicks butt. And that is with no electronics yet!
