yo dodgers greetings i have been reading over this site lots o good info mation. I have an opprotunity to buy an 01 24v turbo diesel 2500 it has 33,300 miles on it. Reading this site has made me concered about fuel pump issues an transmission issues. If i purchase this truck i plan on adding bhaf, exhaust, an edge/atttitude. I guess i am concered on if this truck is a good model. I do not plan on racing it or pulling over ten thousand pounds. I just want a good reliable truck that i can give a little kick too with out having to replace pricy components. Any bias remarks would be greatly appreciated.
You'll be just fine. Buy the truck if you like it, go with the Juice/Attitude, and it will let you know of a problem with the fuel system before it costs you big money.
or spend the money on a good fuel pump and check the pressures to make sure everything is good on the fuel system before you buy it...
Buy it! Saucier, I'd say buy it (real quick if the price is right!!!) and at the first opportunity available install a FASS and then look at transmission upgrades/replacements way down the road. With only 33,000 or so miles on it you should be good to go for quite some time.waytogo
I have a similar question I found a 02 quad cab SLT 2500 w/ a 6spd and 74k mi. in pretty good condition by or not to buy? whats it worth? I understand the fueling issues is there anything else to worry about?
The vp44 injection pumps were as good as they get by 2001. As long as you have some way to ensure the truck has enough fuel pressure, the vp44 will last a long time. Try not to run it below 1/4 tank of fuel, especially during summer. The vp44 uses roughly 70% of the fuel for cooling the pump. Low fuel tank = hot fuel = a problem ($$). I would atleast put in a valve body in the trans with only 33k miles on it. Also the 47re trans had all the latest stock updates. If the truck is 01 and a half, with rear disc brakes, sounds like you have gem! WOODS
