got the truck stuck the other day, had it in 4-lo, the driver(not me) put her in park without pushing the brake. It ground for a good two seconds in park.:doah: My question is, how bad is this for the tranny, do i need to get worried about it or should it be okay? And does the locking differential lock in 4-lo? thanks guys.

That noise was probably the parking pawl...If park still works, don't worry about it but mention it to the mechanic next time it's serviced so it can be checked...Ben

It's a lever that engages a sprocket on the mainshaft when the gearshift is in "Park"...It keeps the driveshaft from turning when parked...It's lifted when the gearshift is in any other position...I'm going way back in memory to describe this, if anything is different in a modern transmission feel free to correct me...Ben

You are correct. The park pawl is mounted in the OD housing and engages the sprocket for park. Most likely, the Park drum was still rotating so the park pawl was attempting to engage and couldn't until the drum slowed down. Best case is no damage, maybe a few small shavings in the pan on the magnet. Worst case is park drum got ground down a bit and rounded off the edges. Might not hold as well or may slip. My guess is you should be ok.

I Agree, it happens and for a 2 sec incident I wouldn't worry to much but I wouldn't make a habbit of doing this and even when in reverse you should always come to a complete STOP before selecting a forward gear.
