i have a 2001 7.3 ford just had my first real problem. The tranmission vent and blowed all the oil out 94000 miles on old one was pulling my camper up a hill was running out of overdive until hill put it in overdrive was setting on hill waiting to go up it when it vented. my question is is it ok to pull the camper out of over drive .
It is hard to understand what you are trying to say but, yes it is OK to pull a trailer with OD turned off. If I understand you correctly, why would you turn on OD to climb a hill? If there is ever a time when you might not want OD it would be climbing a hill.
your supposed to tow with the OD off in fords yeah you lose fuel economy but it still beats losing a tranny.Your tranny looks like it over heated from being in od should be alright if you put the fluid back in it and keep an eye on the trans temp.
Before you go and put new fluid in smell the fluid. if it smells burnt no dice. At the least you need to do a flush and replace it with new fluid. Sounds like it got hot. The fluid boiled out of the case. with 94k on the clock, you are probably close tobeing ready to do atrans anyways. The 4r100 transmsissions are weak inthe cester where the 2 shafts come together. Suncoast and NADP do whats called a dual carrier (it think) or extreme tow option where they add a second bearing for more durability and power handling. Also, adding a deeper pan, like a Mag Hytec and synthetic fluid will help to reduce temps. A bigger or aux trans cooler is a must! The factory cooler is no where near good enough.
