My local Napa store quoted me $289 for a triple guage pod, Auto meter ultra lite Pyro, trans temp, and fuel pressure. Is this a good deal? How hard is it to install everything, the pillar is obviously simple enough but the sensors have me bothered. Thanks. waytogo
Are the pillar pods painted to match? If so, that seems like a reasonable deal to me to buy it all at once. I usually buy all my guages separate on Ebay, so you may want to shop around on there just to see how much it would cost to buy all 3 seperately, I highly doubt you will be able to find a better deal in the end. The pyro is always the expensive one, as well as fuel pressure assuming you get an electric fuel pressure guage, cause you definitely dont want a fuel line running into the cab. Trans temp is relatively cheap. I dont really know much about proper locations on a Dodge/Cummins for sensor placement, but the basic idea is to drill and tap a hole in the exhaust manifold for the pyro. Your fuel system should have a port somewhere for the fuel pressure sender. Not sure about the trans temp as I am more of a handshaker type of guy, but plenty of people on here should know where to put the sender on the Dodge auto. Good luck with it.
I would imagine the A-pillar is black, which is what my factory pillar is. I will havwe to check it out. That would really simplify things if there is in fact a port for the fuel pressure sensor. I pretty much knew about the exhaust. Just got to be carefull drilling and taping the manifold. :doah: I'm guessing each guage has one wire so thats just three I have to get through the firewall. Right?
2 wires for the pyro go through the firewall to the temp probe. If you go with the electric fuel pressure gauge, it will have a plug with 3 wires that needs to go through the firewall. Trans temp will only have one through the firewall. All 3 gauges will need a powered wire and ground wire for the lights, all 3 gauges will also have to have a power wire and ground wire run to them.
I see. Well it doesn't sound too difficult. I can do simple electrical work, but nothing fancy. I'm better with nuts and bolts. :doah:
Check here: http://www.usdieselparts.com/ I bought my DI Pricol guages from them, and they seem to have the best prices. Also: http://www.egauges.com/vdo_main.asp?Cart= They have good prices, but the shipping is a bit high. When you tap the manifold, leave the engine running with the engine idled up to blow out all of the shavings, keeping them out of the turbo. You have to work fast, and where plenty of safety gear to protect yourself from the hot shavings.
