I installed an AFE Stage II filter kit on my 2000 F-250 PSD, AT, about a month ago. I can hear a strange sound coming from the 'air filter area' whenever I accelerate (somewhat hard) and just after the truck shifts into OD. something is vibrating or flutttering or ratteling. is it the wastegate? something else related to the turbo? is this a problem? the air box, intake, etc. are all tight and secure. thanks!

Do you have a boost gauge? You might be experiencing turbo surge, or stall. A boost gauge would confirm this. The fix is to get a wicked wheel for the compressor side of the turbo. This is a common problem on 99.5+ PSDs. Does the truck loose any kind of power or feel like it is hesitating at all when this happens? The wastegate wont really make any noise when working.

No, I do not have a boost guage. I will pay closer attention to power or hesitation the next time I drive it. It only happens at about 50mpg when the truck shifts into OD under load. if I am easy on the pedal, I don't hear much noise/vibration. And the noise goes away if you back off the throttle for a second and then hit it again. I've heard the Wicked Wheel is really only good off the line/best for posers wanting to show-off at intersections - not so good for pulling heavy loads down the highway??? is this true? or will it work under all conditions. My truck does have 4" exhaust, a 'mild' Superchip, and the AFE Stage II filter.

It sounds like turbo surge/stall to me. The fact that lifting off the gas then getting right back on it fixes the problem leads me to believe this. Next time it happens, try givin her some more power, not enough to make it downshift, but enough to try and pull through this period of flutter. The wicked wheel is designed to work with open air intakes/chips and any sort of modded truck. Here is the same basic idea, just not a "Wicked Wheel"
