My "water in fuel" light flashed on and off a couple of times in the last couple of days so last night I parked nose down and drained the filter canister. I figured a thimble full of water since the light just flashed on and off. While it was draining I took the filter out for a looksee. Filter looked ok but I'll get a new one (and a spare) and change it this weekend. When I checked what I drained out I found about 1/3 was water and black gunk. Since I am using 2-cycle oil with every fill up and 12 oz of Lucas for the last 3 tanks I figured that the black stuff is the algae build-up that I always hear about.
End result is a truck that feels like I just added 50hp. And even better, it shifts like it is supposed to now! No more "shuttle shift" between 1-2 and 3-4.
FYI, I bought the truck 5000 miles ago and changed the fuel filter about 4000 miles ago. I don't think the previous owner ever used any additives so I may have a lot more "tank crud" coming through.

Try the ACES fuel additive and the Fitch Fuel Catalyst. Those two should remove the water and gunk.
