Well, yesterday I did it. I ordered my truck. Today I'm kind of in that "oh my god what did I just do" mindset but not as bad as I thought I would be. I can't wait for it to get here. Should be fun as I don't know anything about diesels. Looks like I'm about to learn. Here it is. 2006 F250SD SuperCab 4x4 Red XL 8' bed 6.0 PSD 3.73 Ltd slip Cloth/Vinyl front bucket seats Tow Command Pkg Camper Pkg Skid plates Air Conditioner Tilt wheel/cruise control 12.5K receiver hitch Upfitter switches Manual sliding rear window XL decor pkg $34,899.45 I went through Fleet sales and saved close to $5000 off of retail. The fleet dealer was saying that he doesn't know why anyone goes through the regular dealer anymore. I agree. I just think that most people don't know that fleet is an option and also most people don't really want to do the homework to be prepared with all of the option codes of the stuff they want. Fleet was exactly what I was looking for, working class guys that know their stuff, not a tie or "car salesman" in sight.
Congrat's, cool about the fleet sales, was the fleet sales office at the Dealership location? I hope to get a new rig maybe this fall/winter so need to do my home work also, part of the reason for this site also. waytogo
YYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANEWRIG!!! Congrats waytogo waytogo waytogo
Congrats on the new rig, I cant begin to describe how much you are going to love the TowCommand brake controller. And your truck in general for that matter. Nothing like ordering your rig so you can get EXACTLY what you want. waytogo
It's called "buyer's remorse" and will go away as soon as you're behind the wheel. Congrats! And I agree on using Fleet. They have an attmosphere back there that is SO much better than out front.
And lasts right up until the first paystub comes in the mail. rotfl You're gonna love it. (The truck, not the payment) Sales guys are a pain, I used the X-plan on mine so after the sales guy wasted half an hour pitching me on bull**** I didn't want or need I told him that I was going to use the X-plan and order a truck. He got all moody since he wasn't going to sell me a truck that day. He did learn alot about the options that are available on Ford trucks from me though. rotfl I would recommend the power sliding rear window though, it's great! Not sure if you can reach the slider in a SuperCab or not, if you can then no big deal.
It was across the street from the dealer lot in an old converted bank building. I had to ask where it was since you couldn't tell from the road and there was only one small sign that said Fleet Sales. Plus all of the white trucks were parked over there. Fleet definitely seems to have a low profile. That's probably on purpose since the dealer would prefer to sell to customers at retail.
Definitely. I've been going through this process for almost 3 months now; downloading ordering guides, going through the "build your truck" site, and reading service bulletins. The only thing that I wish I could have gotten was the Power Equipment Group with the power locks and windows. However, Ford won't offer that on the XL unless you have a Fleet ID. They want regular customers to upgrade to the XLT for another $4500. I passed.
You are exactly right. Another coupon book. :doah: I think it will be worth it though. I wanted it but I didn't have that option with the XL. I would have had to upgrade to the XLT package. $$$
Good choice! If I was going to order a new 2006 pickup I would buy an F550 Dually Lariat. Silver paint, 19.5" Alcoas, full leather.....that will probably be my next truck if I choose to go with a dually. Ford has the fleet stuff down, especially with their F450-550 trucks that retain the Superduty body that actually has the option for full options like leather and all power. Unlike Dodge that offers nothing, GM's butt ugly TopKick, and the new IH is far too large and expensive for practical use. I own a Dodge and love it but out of the big three Ford seems to be the only ones making positive steps lately. I really like the changes to the front grille/headlights with the '05's and especially the new coil sprung HD D60, heck yeah on that. I would be gitty like a school girl if they ditched the V8 diesels for a much sturdier, more powerfull CAT and even better, a John Deere inline 6. You'll love having a diesel, the power is a lot different than a gas engine. As soon as that turbo spools up the fun starts.
I definitely agree with that. I told them what I was after and they listened. I had gone to the dealer a month or so before to go look at what the different colors and different seat configurations looked like and I am not kidding, the dealer lackey that was "helping" me was wanting me to write them a check to "start the process". When the fleet guy finished up the order and our meeting was winding up I asked him "don't I need to leave a deposit, or something?" He said that he didn't need a deposit and that if I was going to come in and go through the entire process that he trusted me to follow through but that if I ran into any problems and needed to cancel to let him know as soon as possible. I almost fell out of my chair.
That's awesome! :waytogo: I wish I'd have ordered mine but that's a whole different story. Next time I'll definitely go with Fleet sales though. It's still stupid that they can't put certain options on trucks unless you get an entire package. I mean how does the transmission or the type of seats have anything to do with power door locks or a CD player when it comes to putting them in on the assembly line?
Congrats on the truck and on the way you bought it ! It is nice to hear about folks using their head and doing some homework before they buy. Looks like you have done a fine job at spec'ing it out and balancing options v/s money spent. waytogo Tom
Congrats on the new truck. I happen to know the fleet manager at the dodge dealer where I bought my truck, and I ended up getting my truck for dealer cost minus discounts from fed ex (since I worked for them at the time), financing rebates (ended up going to my bank and getting a rate twice as good, and giving chrysler a check for the whole amount the next day, but kept my $2500 rebate), and got a small business rebate since dad owns a small business. sticker price on the truck was 46k with the dealer markup. I walked out the door in less than an hour, including the test drive, for 33.5k Scott
