i just picked up a 94 2500 diesel pickup. im wondering how i can tell what tranny its got, and how good it is. i have a tendency to beat on trucks pretty hard, so i usually have manual transmission, but i couldnt find the truck i wanted in a manual. im not used to these newwer trucks. thanks for any info.

'94 would be a 4L80E. Picture a TH400 with an overdrive, and thats about what it is.

And electronically controlled. It is a fairly good trans. It will hold up really well to a stock engine. just make sure there is a cooler on it.

i have 4l80-e trannys in all 3 of my trucks love them. just wish the first and second gear were better. th350/700 units have 2 planiteries in them the 4l80-e has 3 units. vary beffy.

also try this if you want a little more shift firmness. i love it. works good easy to install.https://towrig.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1123
