I currently have a Tekonsha Prodigy, but I think I'm going to switch to a BrakeSmart. I tow a heavy 5th, and want the best possible control. What do you guys run, and why did you choose that one?
Tekonsha Prodigy in my F350, seems to be a great controller. In the 05 F250 we have the factory Intergrated Trailer Brake Controller. Truck only has 700 miles on it, so we havent towed anything yet, but I plan to next weekend. I will put up a post to report the results of this new controller.
I have had Prodigy, [several of them over the years. Different models] and I now have a Brakesmart controller. It is by far the best out there yet. Real smooth and easy to install. Scotty
i have the brake smart. LOVE it. just did a nice 1400 mile trip with the trailer (23 foot GN flat bed total weigh truck and trailer is 26k lbs) between it and the exhaust brake i had NO problems with the trip. the airbags helped as well.... Grant
The heaviest that I tow is 7000 - 8000lbs so I don't get into the really fancy controllers....I just use a Draw-tite controller with sync control...... If I had to choose the best for towing a heavy 5ver, it would have to be the Brakesmart.....to have a controller that is modulated by the vehicle hydraulic system is awesome......A lot of guys have them and I have only heard praise of it - nothing bad....Ain't cheap either, so I suppose you get what you pay for!
I just use a cheap tekonsha Voyager. I dont tow a whole lot 8-10k max. The controler works OK. But I guess you get what you pay for. Would like to upgrade some day.
We use the cheapest controller my boss can find. Nice huh? Though I don't tow much over 8k lbs I never knew there were better controllers out there.
