I'm new to power stroke diesels and I'm looking to buy an Excursion to tow an 8-10,000 pound travel trailer (depending on load). I found a well maintained 2003 XLT 7.3L with no rust that doesn't leak for $7,000, but it has 340,000 mostly highway miles, minimal towing.

Another option is a 2003 Limited Edition 7.3L with 170,000 miles for $17,000.

Both look well cared for. Which one would you buy and why? And what should I look for/ask about when inspecting the vehicles?

    Thanks in advance. Tim.

Wow, 340,000 miles... ask about the maintenance performed on the transmission and axles etc..

Thanks for the input. I'll ask about the tranny service. He says it's in perfect condition and has regular preventive service and he has addressed any signs of problems early because it was a work vehicle he used to transport railroad workers from the southwest to Chicago.

KBB is actually $12,000, so it's $5,000 under book.
