Ok why GM sucks... of corse all the brands have there flaws but some certanly more than olthers. So heres why i dont like G.M
    1) The sound... standing up close on idle they sound like a sewing machene on sterroids, i know all have the quit idle stuff all put in em but man is gm bye far the worst... they sound like a gas truck.
2)worken on em... i think for every gm part on those trucks the Murpy's law applys for just about everything... they were built be some guy in a lab not bye a mechanic. shure some of there ideas may look good on paper but they shure dont work. Take changing the headers for one... ever try one of those on a gm you have to remove so much crap to even get at em the time and frustration it makes you want to forget it. same with the camshaft, try putting a performance cam in it... takes lotta work as with dodge its pretty painless compaired to the gm.
    3) stock power hype.... who cares??? just because gm HAD the most stock power i think ford has it now i could be wrong on that one let me know... but the power that they did have is jus anolther number.. as soon as you upgrade a dodge or ford or gm stock power really means nothing
    4) look... compared to the ford's and dodge there pretty ugle in my opinion... espessialy the duallys... the front end looks so flat and flimsey its like a box shape from the cab foward (the new ones 08's)
    5) uneven towing power.... look at the torque curve of a gmc and ddge. The old inline 6 ctd is far more steady even power compaired to gmc... in short no matte how you upgrade a gm.. it will still have the uneven power of a 8 cylinder compared to a 6... theres a rason why allsemi's are 6 cyl not 8.. reliable even torque. Plus a stupid thing but in some way relevent the two more holes are always going to cost more to upgrade. Injectors, camshat, two more pistons when adding preormance pistons, harder to do a head gasket job and more things to go wrong.
    6) reliability, I know the allison transmission is a reliable rig.. no dought about it.. but guess what bye bye allason... according to diesel power allson is being sold to a company called onyx corp for 5.6 billion.. dont believe me? look it up or volume 3 no 10 of diesel power. as for olther than the transmission the reliability isnt so hot.. The Duramax is reated bye its OWN manufacturer for a 225K life expenctity... Thats what gm expects out of there trucks thats not my or someone elses opinion while dodge where the 5.9 cummins is rated for 375K isnt there a problum there? The duramax is bassackwards with this one and it mde me laugh when i heard this this is a perfect example of someone who isnt a mechanic building a truck.. the duramax has a cast iron engne block, alumnum heads and steel head bolts and is runnin 22:1 compression what does the mean.. the danm thing will fuse itself toglther everyone knows steel and alumnum will fuse togelther when under pressure for longer piriods of time and the alumnum head and cast iron engne block expand and contract under head at diffrent rates... whats that meen... everytime you heat her up and cool her off the clearences get changed evrytime and stuff wears out faster.

anywhoo ill add to this post somemore laer but im to tired rightnow...let me know what you have to think i know i cant spell most of it my fingers didnt hit the letter haha but let me know if theres more gm flaws or anyone who wants to quesion what im said id love to hear your opinion
    Thanks for readin
    keep on pullin

    1. The Duramax is a proven engine. Anyone that thinks that is incorrect must live in a cave, wear a blindfold, and sit in the corner with their hands over their ears yelling la la la I can't hear you...

    2. No version of the Dmax EVER had 22.1:1 compression...

    3. The Duramax is probably the best out of the box engine. It's internals have proven to handle big power, and it's cheapy junk aluminum heads can handle more heat and pressure than a B series without blowing a gasket.

    4. GM isn't losing Allison. Yes they sold the company, but there is a claus for them to continue manufacturing certain models used in GM applications, and to continue to carry the Allison badge. GM isn't stupid enough to throw away the nameplate that partly brought them back into the diesel market in 2001.

your right about the tranny it is not going to be removed but just like what happend to land rover when ford baught it the reilibality will go bye bye because the olther companys will get there fingers into it. as for the 22:1 compresion its right on this website.. http://www.freedom-diesels.com/unequal.php you shure?? i know it seems off but there it is. Infact im not living in a cave im a mechanic.. you should rethik about those almunum heads because everytime you put one metan on the olther somewhere along the line they will fail.. wait till the newer models start to age and i bet youll see nothing but dead gm heads. I know they have been putting alunmum heads on cast blocks for a long time but they are asking for problums... ive seen it everywhere fom dirtbikes to suped up sumpthing awful trucks and it seems like the alunmum and cas combo dosent work. " We shop hundreds of trucks every month all over this great country and have SELDOM seen a Duramax with anywhere near 200k miles or more on it' theres a quote from the site i posted uptop. I wouldent call it reliable.. maby the engine intslf (the internals of it) are somewhat decent but not the add on's fuel pumps, all hey are is a v8 with a turned up turbo. Anolther flaw.. im not so shure if its a flaw but isuzu is teamed up with them... it shows the high quality china brand name on your truck.. you can have fear th isuzu sticker on your bcak window. The v8 compared to an inline six the inline has so many advantages in quality over the v8 and in all the experence of working on v8's ive had more often than not the inline six would have not failed where the v8 did

part of your reasoning of V8 diesels failing is due to how people drive those vehicles. people hear V8 and automatically think they can turn RPM's like the old musclecars. I don't even run my 454 like that because it is only built to turn 4800 RPM's maximum. (besides from about 1200 - 2500 it will spin the 32x11.5's clean off the truck) basing your opinions about a V8 diesel compared to an inline 6 is the same as apples to oranges, they are 2 totally different engines and should be judged as such.

yea your right about them being totally diffrent they arent really compareable.... i guess i just like the feel of a 6 better thats more to peoples prefrence, as for absuing them that hapens to all trucks.. no matter what brand and when you can tell the men from the boys is how the truck stands up to the abuse where gm fails miserably, heres ford almost seems to be the best bush/work truck around with dodge a second

You wouldn't happen to be from Freedom Diesel in Hemet? Would you? Because most of your points are the same BS that is on their website. If you are going to ramble off info and bad mouth trucks, at least know the facts. The Duramax was NEVER 22:1 compression, pick up any Diesel magazine and I'm sure you could find it since a Duramax is usually one of the top contenders in any Diesel competition. Check out Oct. Diesel Power and look at the 1000 HP DMAX. And as far as the 200K miles crap. Look on Ebay, they are there. I remember not too long ago there was one with over 400K on Ebay for sale.

Wow, that is some tangent that ol' cummins power went off on there, you know I might be a Dodge guy but I would gladly drive another powerstroke or a duramax. It just is so that I like the way a Dodge looks, sounds and runs. And I can understand it is just an opinion but there are alot of facts out there that will contradict what you stated and people (friends of mine included) who run a duramx everyday some have put well over 200k on the clock and they have been trouble free for the most part. Even my my dodge I am sure will give me a fit someday. Hasnt yet but they all do at one point or another. In fact my '02 Ram, I had to put U joints in the front end, 60k and they went out WTF??! Dont know any GM guys that had that problem...How about we dog on the guys who have yet to bring a diesel pickup to the market, how many years have the big 3 been selling them now? Toyota is behind the curve as far as Im concerned, Im not a gas man so I dont care how good the tundra or the tacoma is anymore. So I guess al I am saying is thanks for your 2 pennys, here is mine. Any oil burner is still better than a gasser, doesnt matter how many cylinders or what configuration they're in.

no im not from freedom diesel. dude my point was that gm only warents there engins for that much and that they dont back there product like ford and dodge does. They dont have pride in what they build. As for 22:1 compression thats not from experence thats from what ive read on that website... to be honest i havent seen a duramax with that ealther.. but w/e thats rong the fact is there backwors when they decidde to build an engine they cant even get the basics right. as for a gm being a top contender a a diesel compitition all i have to say is the only reason there there is because when yo build a truck for things like that you usually end up replaing all the gimmics and **** that gm puts into there trucks so your pretty much left with a body on aftermarket parts. Plus there is a reason that on avarage its like 65% dodge's at those events. you should read this... anolther testmate to poor quality, bad workmanship and gm trying to swindle there costomers... and evn if engine falre was due to the exaust brake... again failure where a ford or dodge would not http://www.trucktrend.com/features/tech/163_0512_chevy_duramax_engine_update/ and it also seems that everywhere people are having problums with the injectors

First off all three have a 100,000 mile warranty. So once again I don't know where you are getting your info. Second, I am not starting a war against Ford now, but go talk to a service manager about the 6.0L, and then come tell me GM doesn't stand behind their product like Ford and Dodge. Third, check the name Nick D'Amico, it was featured in Diesel Power, He won the West Coast Diesel Challenge down near L.A., CA with a wrecking yard Duramax, because the original motor was being built to have more power than the stock one on nitrous. 65% Dodges at those events because Dodges are about $10,000 cheaper to buy. Up until the last few years the Dodge trannys were crap. And just one more piece of info. Look up the 53 Cummins block in I believe it is 1998-2001 and the crack problem some of them had. And how about the 5 cent part that Cummins left out of the 89-1998.5 Dodges that had catastrophic results. Look that one up. Cummins has not been perfect.http://www.dieselpowermag.com/tech/dodge/0706dp_1997_dodge_ram_kdp/index.html

An engine built by Izuzu that is well over 400K in many GM trucks for sale on the used market, and an engine with nothing but aftermarket ECM programming laying down WELL over 500 RWHP would disagree that they don't have the basics down. Using aluminum heads on a cast iron block IS the new basic.... it's the style that most engine manufacturers are going to and is working great. In the diesel market, the Dmax could be the flag ship for alum/iron combo as it has been so successfull.

Gee.... all the Dodges have chips, big injectors, different and/or twin turbos, and many with aftermarket o-ringed head setups to handle the power....

Most of the GM guys are running EFI live, stock injectors, stock turbo, stock head gaskets, and some nitrous to help with EGT's.

Wait, I forgot.... which truck is loaded with aftermarket parts again????

Bar none, the Dmax is the best setup out of the box. Either accept it as fact or go sit in the corner with your hands over your ears and your eyes shut because that is the only way a guy could believe anything different.

1.There quite. I like Loud diesel engines, but how does them make them bad? The Cummins is quite too!!
    2. Look at the new Cummins. Its also packed in there now. They all are with all this emmisions stuff. Atleast you dont have to take the cab off like the Fords!
    3. Here check out this comparison test http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/2007/shootout/hdshootout1.html
Just cause you dont like em dosent mean they cant run!! And yes, Ford is showing the least amount of power right now on the Dynos. GM and Dodge are right there neck to neck with each other. Go pick up Diesel World mag, it has their Dynos!!
    4. Looks all are preference man. I can really care less if you like the way they look.
    5. All semi's and tractors are inline 6 because they are easier to work on.
    6. Your smoking crack on this one. The compression is 16.8 to 1!!! They have never had 22!!! They've never had problems with their heads! And there are plenty of Duramax's with high mileage on them! The only problem with heads here that I see is yours!!!

I really like the Cummins engine, its a great engine!! Just cause you dont like the Duramax dosent mean its crap though!!!

I think it is just Red is stating facts not preference. I would do the same thing if there was a serious lack of knowledge from a guy popping off about Ford or Dodge.

heres my take. you got the cummins duramax and powerstroke. all great engines, and best of all their all DIESEL!!! The first few years of the duramax were crap. just like the cummins first few years, and most of the 6.0's life. but now. id be happy with any of them in my driveway. this guy is quite off about the duramax. but your probly not going to convince him otherwsie. this is probly a pointless post, but o well!! im voicing my opinion. o and dmaxrig, its quiet not quite...:)

The first generation Duramax from '01-03 is the best version out there, with the LBZ in close second.

The first few Cummins years were bad? How? Why? Besides low power output, the B series has been a solid piece since '89.

I had a 24 valve Cummins 1998 and a half ( must be noted since they were introduced mid year. I had over heating problems up the wazoo pulling only a third of what I can with my Ford. By the way I ordered a new 6.4 and can't wait. FORD HAS THE MOST AVAILABLE GVW BETWEEN THE BIG 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea BABY!!!! Gotta have fun in the Rocky Mountian Sunwaytogo

I know we're talking about engines here, but what about the front axle? Sure the GM has a smoother ride, but you can't beat a solid front axle for all out durability and abuse. I'm a solid axle guy. One thing though, I wish my powerstroke sounded like a cummins:rolleyes:

3 things keep me from buying a Chevy:

1: IFS .( before we get all hung up on that I have my valid reasons)

    2: Goofy ass clearance lights

3:The Cummins is a MORE proven engine with a Flatter Tourqe Curve

the original poster is way off in left field he doesn't know half as much about vehicles in general as he thinks he does. Any one with any sort of real ,PRACTICAL knowledge would not make such a generalized statement.

Oh and the Aluminum and cast iron thing LOL so according to you I should Pull the AFR heads of my 406 and put some 305 heads on it ????? oh and the Edelbrock intake is Aluminum too uh oh I better get rid of it and go back to the Cast iron boat anchor. damn!!!! what about the Distributor!!!!! ..........................................................

    Get a clue duderotfl
