The trailer in question is the 40' livestock trailer by Featherlite.
Does anyone know how much it weighs empty and if a 3500 will pull it ?

We need more information to answer the question properly. I'm sure a 3500 could pull the trailer around empty but cattle is heavy. You probably couldn't put many head in it all, probably not even half full.

i pull 18k with a SRW, make sure you get a dually though. everything i pull is dead weight.

i think it could do it. 6 speed would be in order i think as well.

My buddy uses an 05 3500 to pull around a 35' flatbed with a Case back hoe on it. Total vehicle weight, like 38,800 lbs, truck, trailer, tractor and tooling. And, his truck has 3.73 gears, not 4.10. I think you would have no problems. I am assuming the trailer is alunimum. I'd say the trailer emptywould wight in the 8K lb range, mabe a touch more. I just looked online and a 30' stock trailer has 2 8000 lb axles (16000 total), plus you add your hitch weight and you have a max of what, 18K lbs for the trailer? So, the 40 footer I am assuming would bemore like 25K.

According to the DOT and Dodge, no. But I used a 3500 5-speed to haul 20K+ for 3 years and never had any problems. Just be sure to be safe and keep your braking systems in top condition.
