Well I've kind of been AWOL for a while. Been Lurking but havent had time to post lately. However I got my wisdom teeth out last night so I have plenty of time now!!:doah:Figured Id kind of do an update over the last few months. In March I got a new job driving a Roll-Back tow truck. I drove a 2007 Freightliner Business Class M2 Extended Cab with a 6.4L 250hp Mercedes Benz turbo Diesel, 26,000GVW. It has an Allison 3500 6-speed auto and an engine brake. The bed is a Jerr-Dan 21' with wheel lift and full LED lighting. The Rims are 22.5 Alcoas. It was pretty much the funnest job Ive ever had. However the pay wasnt enough to keep my wife home with the baby. So I went to work about 3 weeks ago for a friend of mine driving this. It is a 2002 Dodge 3500 Cummins 4x4 with ............831,000miles on it. It is all stock with a beefed up Auto tranny (barf...6speeds all the way). It has a B&W Turnover gooseneck hitch, 150gallon auxillary fuel tank, and CB. The truck has 3.55 gears which suck for hauling as you need to go 75mph to keep the truck in the power band. This load weighs approx 18000lbs and the truck will run 70+ easily on the flats. Hauled it up to CO from NM and ran about 35mph up Raton pass. It only averages about 9mpg loaded with the 3.55s but will do 23mpg empty. I have to say in regards to the whole "Dodge Wrapper" thing that this truck looks and drives like it has 150,000miles on it. It has totally changed my opinion of Dodge quality and my next truck will definetly be a Dodge Cummins (with a Manual trans of course)
Whats it like trying to stop that trailer with 3 cars on it coming down from the mountains? Seems there would allways be that one person that has to get in front of you at the worst time, then .
We just put all new brakes on the truck and trailer. It stops Alot Quicker than you would think. I never push it though and try to do about 35-40mph going down the hills in 2nd gear.
Makes me feel good to see another truck like mine running that many miles and still going strong waytogo
