It seems strange to me that the EGT is that high even with the chip off; is it running at normal boost levels?

Agreed... you can get a good exhaust and intake for fairly cheap and then be able to add a chip without risking excessive EGT's.
You could also spend a bit more and get an Edge Juice w/ Attitude and just keep it in the lower levels. That way you get all the gauges you need...

You would think that an alternator would be covered under warranty; but I also thought my intercooler would be covered and it wasn't.
It won't hurt to leave it running, but it also wouldn't hurt to shut it off. If it were me I would go for a couple of tanks leaving it running...
