What kind of mileage are you guys getting while not towing? I know these trucks aren't superb at the pump, but I expected mine to be somewhat better than newer gas engines... I was wrong, but the 4.11s could have something to do with that..

At an average speed of 65MPH on the highway, running at ~2000RPM, I get about 16.5mpg. I recently replaced the IP, Glow Plugs, Alternator, removed the EGR system, cleaned the intake, and replaced the Turbo Wastegate Solenoid. If my mileage seems low after all that even with 4.11s, please do tell me... heh...

I have a 92' 6.5 2500 4X4, running 265's and 3.73 gears. I bought the truck it had 4.11's and in stock form it got 16.5mpg. For towing, I would keep the 4.11's, the motor worked allot better with them. For just running down the highway, the 3.73 and 265s gave me +2mpg. I chopped up the air box and stuffed a K&N in it and got .5 mpg more. Performance exhaust form the turbo back got me .6 mpg more. I had the injection pump & injectors rebuilt, had the newer style bosch tips put on and the pump (fuel) turned up to the max limit with mfg spec and got .4 mpg more. I now get 20mpg running 70mph, and its been steady for the last 200K miles, truck has 300k+ on it now. I now tow with my CTD and just use the 6.5 for everything else.

~15 mpg empty, 11-13 towing. Most of my mods are in my sig, but the truck desperately needs new injectors. With new injectors i am expecting it to go back up to the 18 empty, 15 towing that it was at 30K miles ago.

    Empty mileage

I have a 96 3500 2WD Crew Cab Dually with 4.11 and the 4L80E. I have the 235-85-16 tires (factory) reflashed ECU 3.5 exhaust,3' downpipe, modified airbox and AFE air filter. I can set cruise at 65-70 mph and get 21.2 mpg. I didn't get this until I switched oil to a synthetic blend, before it was 18 mpg empty and 10 towing 12K.

im looking at a 95 and was wondering about the mpg towing looks like most gets around 16-18 mpg not towing, and what it would be towing and my idea of towing is a utility trailer with 1-2 4 wheelers or a small enclosed trailer w/ my bike in it ,is that heavy enough to affect the miles alot

I don't think so. I have a double snowmobile trailer and 2 snowmobiles and don't really notice a difference. I haven't checked it towing something that light. We also have a 16 foot car trailer and 2 4X4 quads, a Suzuki sport quad, and a kids quad and I get 1-2 MPG less towing that.
