I've had to do it a couple times cause there was no other choice, normaly its cause its a lifted 4x4 with big tires and on most older 4x4's the front axle is wider then the rear. SO the front axle wouldnt fit between the fenders so they have to go on backwords. I hate towing like that though it seams on bad bump or someone cuts you off and you have to break fast things gets squirly fast.

I hauled a '98 Chevy 2wd 1/2 ton reg cab 8' bed backwards on a 22' trailer behind my Tahoe last week. Loaded it and was worried about not having enough tongue weight so I put the back wheels at the front of the trailer. When I got out to chain it down I noticed my Tahoe was almost on the bumpstops. So I moved it towards the back of the trailer until the Tahoe had an acceptable amount of squat. I towed it about 40mi from Castle Rock to Commerce City. I ran 75-80mph at certain parts of the trip and even with the soft suspension of the Tahoe didnt hardly sway at all.

Like it has been said as long as you make sure you have adequate tongue weight you will be fine.

My family runs a PROFESSIONAL towing service(since 1972)...they make a good living off the shear ignorance of others. I have albums full of photos of the results of people doing truly stupid things while towing. As an OTR truck driver, I've seen a lot more, but didn't get a chance to take pictures. :stir:

Of course, some people are so good, they can repeal the Laws of Physics. ;)

75-80 does seem a bit fast when you are pulling someone else's stuff... but that's just me...

The problem with loading a truck backward is that the majority of the truck weight is in the front of the truck which will make your trailer tail heavy...not a good situation with a bumper pull.

Correct...I loaded a pickup backwards on a flatbed trailer and it pushed my Dodge dually all over the road until I stopped and re-loaded the other way...With the weight distributed correctly, I drove the next 2000 miles and barely knew it was back there...Ben
