I have a new tow rig project. This is a 1978 K30 with a 500ci Caddy engine bolted to a T400 trans and NP208 t-case. It has 4.56:1 R&P with 33" tires. It gets about 6 MPG. I plan is to convert it to a Cummins 12v engine, trans and t-case but that will be more than a year. I would really like to do something right now to improve the mileage. Right now cruising down the hiway this thing is cranking out a lot of RPM. I would like to have someone look at the pics I am posting of how the engine, trans and t-case were outfitted by the previous owner and tell me if a 700R4 trans swap would be easy to do. Meaning: would it bolt in with the current hardware I have now or would there be a lo0t more fab and adapting? I am a seasoned machinist and fabricator so there isn't much that scares me off.
