What ticks me off is it's about time for us to start getting ready to work ground for spring planting and to order new fuel. It ticks me off to see it jump way up right before we order 700 gallons for the ranch. We refill about 3 times during the spring too and that makes a big difference between $1.65 to 1.99 for offroad fuel.
This came about in the '70s. The oil companies jumped the price for diesel and "bunker" fuel that big ships use. There was a time that the lower grade fuels were a waste product and they were glad to sell it cheap. But they saw how much they were selling and look at what we have now.......
I think as long as diesel vehicles gain popularity, we will see the fuel prices stay above gasoline. I am worried about what will happen in '07 (I think?) with the new "clean fuel" the fuel companies need to start producing.
Won't mean a thing in Kali, they've had the "clean" fuel for about 15 years. In fact if other states start making Kali spec diesel the price there might drop some.
I fill up at work and we are getting fuel for around $2.00 a gallon. The Mobil down the street is $2.25.
.70 cents more than regular gas here. I saw it for $2.80 this morning in Beaverton, OR. I also found this article excerpt about why it might be happening so bad on the West Coast: THE SIMPLE EXPLANATION FOR THE SHARP RISE IN DIESEL PRICES IS THAT SUPPLIES ARE SHORT ON THE WEST COAST. BUT WHY DID THAT HAPPEN? INFORMATION COLLECTED BY WASHINGTON STATE POINTS TO ABNORMALLY LONG MAINTENANCE SHUTDOWNS AT SEVERAL NORTHWEST REFINERIES. IN ADDITION, THE STATE'S ENERGY POLICY SPECIALIST GREG NOTHSTEIN SAYS THERE WAS AN EXPLOSION AT A PRODUCTION FIELD IN ALBERTA. Nothstein: "The demand for diesel has been rising faster than for gasoline. That market has become very tight. So any little upset like the explosion and fire or the maintenance can cause a disturbance and cause prices to rise very rapidly." ANOTHER ANALYST TIM HAMILTON HARBORS DARKER SUSPICIONS. HE DIRECTS A REGIONAL TRADE ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT GAS STATIONS AND TRUCK STOPS. HAMILTON ACCUSES BIG OIL OF FAILING TO BUILD UP FUEL INVENTORIES PRIOR TO THEIR MAINTENANCE SHUTDOWNS. Hamilton: "One hundred percent of the price increase is simply increased profits for them. They are making a lot of money by shorting the market. They do this by slowing down production in refineries and exporting our product out of here as we get ready to go into the spring time." WASHINGTON STATE NOW HAS THE MOST EXPENSIVE DIESEL IN THE ENTIRE U-S, FOLLOWED CLOSELY BY HAWAII AND OREGON, AND THEN CALIFORNIA AND IDAHO. IT'S AS MUCH AS 65 CENTS PER GALLON MORE HERE THAN IN OTHER REGIONS, WHERE TRUCK FUEL COSTS ABOUT THE SAME AS PREMIUM UNLEADED. I'M TOM BANSE IN ABERDEEN, WASHINGTON. Details, details: Washington diesel price average $2.64/gallon (3/1/05) Oregon diesel price average $2.60/gallon (3/1/05) California diesel average $2.44 California diesel average $2.44 Idaho diesel price $2.38/gallon WA price about 80 cents higher than late December.
Knowing the corporate world, and with all the Enron debacles and such, I'm going to go with Mr. Hamilton on this one...
Yup just paid 2.45 this morning out in the central valley, here in the Gay Area I see it up to 2.65+:doah:
Just paid 2.50. This sucks, im burning up all of the savings ive been living off while out of work on fuel to get me to school.
