Have a 1996 Powerstroke and now that it has gotten a little colder it doesn't want to start when sitting over night. I don't think it has been getting much less than 32 degrees at night. But today when I tried to start it it was only about 40-45 degrees outside. Turn the key, the wait to start light goes out, I crank it and it just seems to puff out a little white smoke but doesn't start, shut the key off, wait for the wait to start light to go out again, and same thing. Usually on the third time of doing this it will start. I am thinking glow plugs but the truck has 130,000 miles on it and most is highway miles. Not a lot of starts. I know other people with more miles and claim they have never changed them. What is the normal life span of these glow plugs?

You probably have a bad glow plug controller. It sits on the back on the engine by the fuel filter.
